Building Character through Youth Social Action Online Course  

Start date: 12th June

Future Learn are offering a free online course looking at the history of social action, and how youth social action can help build character in young people. This course is for anyone with an interest in youth work and working with young people. It might be of particular interest to voluntary sector practitioners (including volunteer managers), youth workers, CSR managers, HR managers, adult volunteers, parents and teachers. Book here.

What's your opinion of your body image?

The Youth Select Committee want to hear people's views on body image and is calling for evidence. Body image was one of the top ten issues voted for by amost one million young people in UK Youth Parliament's "Make Your Mark" ballot in 2016.

Some of the people who submit written evidence will be invited to give oral evidence in parliament in early July. The Youth Select Committee will write a report to be launched in November with recommendations to the government. The government will respond to this report in early 2018. The call for written evidence closes on 16th June. Terms of reference and information on how to submit evidence can be found here.

Rural Funding Event

Thursday 29 June
North Devon Council are offering a briefing on the wide range of grants and funding currently available for rural businesses and projects in North Devon, with a full programme of talks and presentations from organisations including as Leader 5, the RPA, North Devon AONB, Exmoor, Connecting Devon and Somerset, and others.
There will be the opportunity to talk to funders and pick up information following the presentations.

Extra support for young people in Exeter

Young Devon have announced an additional  mentor for young people in Exeter and have now increased their capacity for referrals. This mentoring service is a one to one programme designed to enable young people to build on their employability skills and confidence through personalised activities and support sessions. Support is available with CV writing, job applications as well as advice and guidance on apprenticeships and college course options. If you have any young people you feel would benefit from the one to one mentoring programme please get in touch with the completed referral form. Once a referral is received they will contact the young person to arrange an informal interview, during which they will discuss the support available and how best they can help them.
