Young people needed to evaluate NYA's flagship money education prog

The National Youth Agency is looking for young people to help assess their innovative money know-how programme. Here's what they say:

My Money Now offers free financial training for young people aged 16-21 who are entering employment for the first time. Many of our sessions are delivered by young people using youth work skills to support learning. We want to evaluate how effective young people-led learning is and need the insights of other 16-21 year olds to do so.

Jodie Lees, project manager of My Money Now said, “Finance skills are a vital part of young people’s personal and social development, and of equal importance to qualifications in their future life chances.

"We believe that young people can learn those skills more effectively and retain information better when they are trained by people of their own age that they can relate to. My Money Now is peer-led so we want to test this theory by getting young people themselves to assess the workshops, discuss and feedback their observations.

"We’re hoping their insights can make My Money Now even better at helping young people manage their cash – and their lives.”

Candidates must be able to relate well to other young people, have great communication and social skills and be able to work independently. The post will suit enthusiastic, self-motivated and observant individuals who are interested in being part of an engaging youth focused project. Roles close for applications on 21 August.

Survey on the future of children’s services

Parents, carers, health professionals and community groups who work with children are being urged to take part in a survey about the future of children’s services, including school nursing, mental health and additional needs.

The survey forms part of a final push to get people with experience of these services to give their views and influence the shape of the contracts that will be tendered in the coming months.

Proposals have been drawn up by health and social care professionals, clinicians and partner organisations, based on public engagement work with children, young people, parents and carers.  But before any decisions are made, health professionals want to give people another opportunity to comment or raise questions and to get as many views as possible during the next six weeks. Further information is available here. The survey is available here.

For further information or to ask for a survey to be posted to you, please call 01803 652480 or email devonchildrens.services@nhs.net. Also, please use these contact details if you are involved with a children's group and want a health professional to speak to the group.
