MANAGING ALLEGATIONS

Presented by DCC's Local Authority Designated Officers (LADO’s)

Everyone who works with children and young people should know who they should go to in their organisation or setting with concerns about the behaviour of, or an allegation against, a colleague or any other adult who works with children and young people.

Designated Safeguarding Officers in the Voluntary and Community Sector need to understand which behaviours to address directly through their complaints or disciplinary procedures and under what circumstances they should contact the Local Authority Designated Officer (LADO).

What constitutes appropriate or inappropriate behaviour will vary depending upon the context and nature of the work undertaken. All employers have a responsibility to set personal and professional boundaries for their staff and to be explicit about what behaviours are illegal, inappropriate or unacceptable.

This session is aimed at helping you understand this area of work.

By the end of this event, participants will understand:

  • What constitutes an allegation
  • Conduct/practice issues versus allegations and when to refer to the LADO
  • The role of voluntary organisations and of the LADO in managing the allegations process
  • The potential outcomes following an allegation being made
  • The basics of safer recruitment practices.
