The aim of the workshop is to share with you some new ideas and skills to support your loved one with a mental health issue. You will be guided through a set of advanced caring skills based on the New Maudsley Method, developed by the South London and Maudsley Foundation Trust.

Key aims of the day are to encourage parents and carers to:

• Take time for themselves to ensure their own needs are met
• Reduce the level of guilt felt as a parent/carer of someone with a mental health issue
• Consider themselves empowered supporters of their loved one’s recovery
• Practise offering praise and expressing non-judgemental, unconditional love

This workshop is not about ‘treating’ your loved ones; it is about being able to respond differently. We believe as a team that families can be a powerful component in the recovery process and we want to enable you to feel more confident to do this. So it will work alongside any treatment or support they are receiving.

Our facilitators on the day will be:

Kathy O’Connor
Kathy O’Connor works as a student counsellor at The University of Exeter Wellbeing centre. She has two adult children, one of whom struggled with an eating disorder during her adolescent years and has since made a full recovery. Due to her passion for supporting young people and their families with mental health issues, Kathy and Jacqui established the Mid-Devon Eating Disorder Support group for parents and carers, which has recently ceased running. It was during this time that they trained as Empowering Families coaches with the Maudsley Clinic in London.

Jacqui Mann
Jacqui is mum of 2 adult children. Her daughter had mental health issues as a child which relapsed on starting university, but her daughter is currently on a Masters course and recovering. Jacqui has an NHS background but is semi retired and volunteers as parent advisor with Young Minds charity, Amplified programme. She likes to support other parents and pursue better mental healthcare for children and young people wherever possible.

Our venue for the day is The Hub in Lyme Regis, which provides a fantastic space for the event. Lunch is not included but kitchen facilities and a cosy cafe area are available on site.
Book your place today! Only £10 per participant.
