Role: Clerk to Board of Trustees

Hours: Up to 5 hours per month (including board meetings every quarter)

Length of Contract: Voluntary role

Place of Work: Home-based / Some board meetings in Newton Abbot. Devon.

Salary: Unpaid role

Overview of the Post

Life Chance Trust’s mission is to transform the life chances of 16–25-year-olds who have experienced childhood trauma. You will be supporting a charity that is delivering real impact to some of the most vulnerable young people in Devon. http://www.lifechancetrust.org.uk

The Clerk to the Board of Trustees will have previous experience in administration and an interest in working for a charity. Though charity governance knowledge would be helpful it is not essential as training will be provided. To ensure the smooth and efficient running of meetings, providing assistance and support to the Chair of the Board of Trustees.

Responsibilities and Objectives

  • To liaise with the Chair of Trustees and Head of Trust to plan, arrange and produce agendas and supporting papers for trustee meetings.
  • Minute take for Trustees meetings.
  • To ensure that all meetings comply with the requirements of the governing document.
  • Ensuring that trustee decisions are implemented in accordance with the charity’s governing document or other internal operational procedures.
  • Accurately record decisions and actions in the minutes.
  • Supporting with the collation of the Charities Annual Report.

Experience and Skills

  • Experience and knowledge of office administration processes.
  • Excellent Microsoft Office and document presentation skills.
  • Commitment to the charities strategy and a willingness to devote the necessary time.
  • An ability to work effectively as a member of a team as well as able to effectively work independently.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • A positive and ‘can-do’ outlook.
  • Be organised and motivated to carry out their role within the charity.
