Part Time Self-Employed Phab Club Torbay Group Leader

Role Overview:
● Position: Self-Employed Group Leader
● Organisation: Phab Club Torbay (Enrichment and Social Groups). Who we are
● Target Age Group: Young people aged 8 to 24 with learning disabilities
● Commitment: Monday evenings (ages 16-24) and Wednesday evenings (ages
8-15). In total approximately 10 hours per week (term time only 39 weeks)

Responsibilities:
1. Activities:
o Create engaging and inclusive activities that align with Phab Torbay’s
values.
o Plan sessions, outings, and events that promote social interaction,
creativity, and personal growth.
o Foster a positive and supportive environment.
o Promote self-esteem and independence.
2. Safeguarding and Safety:
o Ensure compliance with safeguarding policies and procedures.
o Attend relevant training sessions (including safeguarding training) to
maintain up-to-date knowledge.
o Implement risk assessments and safety protocols during activities.
3. Budget Management:
o Working within a committee structure to develop and manage Phab
Torbay’s budget.
o Allocate funds effectively for supplies, outings, and special events.
o Keep accurate records of expenses and receipts.
o Maintain accurate accounts that will be regularly scrutinised by the
management committee and audited annually.
o Participate in fundraising and bid writing to local and national funding
groups.

4. Collaboration and Communication:
o Work closely with parents/carers to understand participants’
requirements.
o Communicate effectively with families during arrival and departure
times.
o Collaborate with other staff members and volunteers.
5. Committee Reporting:
o Provide updates to the Phab Torbay management committee.
o Attend committee meetings and contribute insights.
6. Inclusion and Diversity:
o Celebrate diversity and adapt activities accordingly.
o Promote a sense of belonging.

As this post is for a self employed individual, you will need to be a person of good
character with a successful track record of enabling and/or leading/supporting
community groups. Please provide a minimum of 2 references, one of which needs
to be a professional reference. Referees will be contacted by someone acting on
behalf of the Phab Torbay Committee so please do not provide any open references.
Costs of these services will need to be invoiced by the successful candidate upon
appointment and so you should indicate how much you would charge for these
services based on a 10 hour week across 39 weeks in your covering letter.
Shortlisted applicants will be required to undertake a short presentation to the
management committee and complete a formal interview.

The successful candidate will be subject to an enhanced DBS check.
